Job Purpose |
To provide a high-level of expertise and support to the University of Al Dhaid’s Libraries,
and manage the catalog of materials, input data into electronic catalog to ensure users can locate books, serials, or other documents.

Key Accountabilities |
- Categorize and classify library materials, including books, CDs, films, newspapers, or other documents.
- Search bibliographic databases to determine relationship of item in hand to existing bibliographic records and analyze material to determine proper access points.
- Apply Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (AACR2R), Resource Description and Access (RDA), Library of Congress subject heading policies (LCSH), Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), LC Classification, Arabic subject headings, MARC21 and catalog materials in categories of advanced specialized backgrounds.
- Create and modify personal names, corporate names, uniform titles, series, subject headings, etc., for inclusion in authority files after approval of head of technical services.
- Implement Library of Congress Classification Call Numbers using ClassWeb and National Library of Medicine (NLM).
- Resolve cataloguing problems and assists in the maintenance of the online catalogue through performing original and copy cataloguing based on current standards, database maintenance and authority control to prevent duplicates.
- Assist in the maintenance and operation of the library’s automation system, including creation and editing of bibliographic records.
- Ensure all material can be retrieved conveniently using standardized methods. As well as resolve complex bibliographic problems and conflicts in bibliographic records.
- Keep students updated through providing advice, offering demonstrations, and providing information on best practices and up-to-date policies in cataloguing to enhance the searching ability of students and users.
- Follow University of Al Dhaid’s library standards and guidelines when classifying documents.
- Manage library issues through consulting with other libraries in order to resolve cataloguing and database problems, report trends in bibliographic services, answer questions, transmit information, and discuss options for handling library materials to facilitate the process for students and users.
- Prepare and generate various reports, lists, and statistics related to the library when requested by the line manager.
- Complete any other job-related tasks as assigned by line manager within the expected time limit.
- Collect all books collections (Textbooks, books for library use) requests and revise them.
- Enrich the library with new resources after the approvals of academic programs.
- Visit bookfairs to update different resources for the library.
- Stamp books, barcoding, stick reference number labels and make sure the resources are matching with the system.
- Suggest new tools used for all classification and cataloging processes (hardware & software).

Required Qualification & Experience |
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Library Administration, Library Information Systems, or a relevant discipline.
- 2-4 years of UAE experience in similar role preferably in higher education institutions.
- A Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline is a plus.
- Priority is to UAE Nationals.
