The University of Al Dhaid has established a new program in Sustainable Agriculture to serve aspirations and needs of UAE and the region by contributing to the development of well-rounded professionals in the domain.
The College of Agriculture at the University of Al Dhaid invites qualified candidates from the academic ranks Assistant/ Associate/ Professor to apply for a faculty position in the discipline of Horticultural Sciences. Horticulture is an important industry in Sharjah and more widely in the UAE.
Technological developments have the capacity to expand the industry significantly, and the UAE also imports many horticultural products from wide variety of countries.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality education and practical knowledge at undergraduate level in horticultural courses, and other related courses as required, such as plant physiology, soil science, or biology.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise, facilitate learning through innovative teaching methods, and assess student performance to ensure the attainment of learning outcomes.
  • Foster a supportive learning environment that encourages student engagement and promotes academic excellence in the field of horticulture.
  • Empower students with the essential skills and knowledge to collaborate with industry and provide expert information to the horticultural industry.
  • Provide academic counselling and support to students.
  • Supervise student research and projects.
  • Undertake and publish research in quality peer-reviewed journals.
  • Develop collaborations with national and international academics, research groups, and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with industry on research projects and student training.
  • Engage in appropriate activities to attract external research grant funding.
  • Undertake other assigned administrative tasks by the program/department, college, and university.
  • Complete any other job-related tasks as assigned by line manager within the expected time limit.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or an equivalent qualification in Agriculture, with a major in Horticulture, Soil Science or related field from a reputable and internationally recognized University.
  • Minimum three years’ teaching experience in horticulture and Soil Sciences at undergraduate level.
  • Strong record of accomplishment of research publications in refereed scholarly international journals with good impact factors.
  • Experience in supervising, Master and/or PhD Theses/Dissertations.
  • Interest and experience in bridging links with industry and the community.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a group.
  • Leadership potential.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
